The M.int Leaves course is designed to be taken before or alongside instrumental lessons to form an unrivalled, balanced, and comprehensive music education unique to M.int Academy.

In the first 30 minutes, students will explore musicianship fundamentals inspired by the Kodály Method of musical education, a world-renowned approach that specialises in child-friendly game-based learning. Leaves will reinforce their understanding of musical concepts and terminologies through playground songs, rhymes and rhythmic movements. Building on the skills learned at the Sprouts level, students will learn to sing in pitch – both individually and in a group – while developing a strong conscious grasp of pitch, rhythm and beat.

In the second half of the class, students will be introduced to classical music composers across the main musical periods – Baroque and Classical in the Fall term, Romantic and 20th Century in the Spring term, and one period per week in the Summer term. Students will explore iconic composers and their most famous works, such as Bach’s Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, Mozart’s The Magic Flute, Beethoven’s Symphony No.5, Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker, Liszt’s Piano Concerto No.1, John Williams’ Star Wars theme, Strouse and Charnin’s Annie the Musical and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue to name but a few. Through the exploration of different composers and genres – such as concerto, symphony, opera, ballet, musical, jazz and film music – students will expand on their instrumental knowledge and theory concepts through the study of these famous compositions.
